Abbas began depicting lifestyle in Bahrain like no other before him, drawing inspiration from the local Manama souk and surrounding villages. He had the opportunity to travel to Europe to pursue his passion, exposing himself to the history of art, visiting art galleries and museums, something that left a lasting impression on him as an artist. Given the irreversible changes of the urban and rural landscape, his paintings provide the viewer with the necessary imaginative and aesthetic bridge to the past. Indeed such is the power of his native Bahrain on his artistic output that it colours both literally and figuratively his abstract paintings. Using oils, acrylic, papyrus, and rice paper on canvas his paintings range from figurative traditional Bahraini scenes in the impressionist mold to abstract works.
